MSG (Ret.) Edward James Gannon, 87, of Columbus, GA died Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Midtown Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Mr. Nicholas Page officiating. A private family interment will be held at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Edward was born to James and Mary Doloughty Gannon in Pittsburg, PA. He served 24 years in the United States Army earning the Parachutist badge, Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with 1 Silverstar, United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal 14th Award, National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 bronze stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal with Valor Device, Army Commendation Medal with 2 Oakleaf Clusters, Marksmanship Badge, Presidential Unit Citation, and 2 Overseas Service Bars.
After retirement from the military, he also retired from RC Cola. He was an avid Notre Dame fan and also loved the Dawgs. He loved traveling and doing things with his family.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha White Gannon, son, Bill Gannon, son-in-law, LTC Tom Kee, and daughter-in-law, Jane Gannon Sims.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Gannon, daughter, Cissie Gannon Kee, 3 grandsons, James "J Bird" (Dominique), Josh (Brit), and Jon, 4 great grandchildren, Alexis, Jemma, Jackson "Jack", and James "Baby Bird", and the Servicemen of The Viet Nam B Co. ¾ CAV 1967-1968 Troop.
