Edgar W. Tolbert, Jr., 92, of Columbus, GA died Friday, November 1, 2013 at Hamilton House.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Monday, November 4, 2013 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ralph Henderson officiating. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour prior to service time at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Tolbert was born March 10, 1921 in Columbus, GA, son of the late Edgar W. Tolbert, Sr. and Winnie Martin Crouch. He worked as a District Supervisor for A&P Food Store and was a member of First Baptist Church, Opelika, Al and later worshipped at Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Columbus. He was a former Sunday school teacher, Deacon, Finance Director, BTU at First Baptist of Opelika and at Mt. Zion of Columbus he was a senior Men's Adult Sunday School Class teacher. He was a former coach and President of Little League in Opelika and a lifelong member of YMCA of Columbus, GA.
Survivors include his wife, of 72 years, Hazel McGuire Tolbert; two sons Mike Tolbert (Annette) of Brooksville, FL and Jim Tolbert (Anne) of Charlottesville, VA; three grandchildren, Callie Tolbert, J.R. Tolbert, and David Tolbert along with six great grandchildren.
Flowers will be accepted; but, those who wish may make a memorial contribution to a charity of their choice.
