Edeltraud "Trudy" Mitchell, of Columbus, GA passed away peacefully on May 15, 2024, in the care of The Landings of Columbus. Trudy's journey of 88 vibrant years began with a spirit that would come to touch many hearts and lives.
Trudy moved away from her home in Germany in her early years when she met and married her beloved husband , Donald Patrick Mitchell, a U.S. Army serviceman. Their love story beginning across oceans and cultures, blossoming into a lifelong partnership. One of Trudy's greatest accomplishments was earning her US citizenship. Trudy further dedicated herself to the care of others by obtaining her CNA certificate, a testament to her nurturing spirit.
Trudy found her professional calling as a dedicated Certified Nursing Assistant at Oak & Pine Manor nursing home. Her loving nature and kind touch brought comfort and joy to many during her years of service. Trudy's caring hands and compassionate heart left a lasting impact on both colleagues and those she cared for.
Her interests and hobbies painted a picture of a life rich with simple joys and creative endeavors. Trudy was known for her love of game shows, with "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune" being her favorites, echoing her quick wit and love for puzzles. A visit to the casino with her many beloved friends was a cherished pastime, where she delighted in the thrill of chance and the camaraderie of fellow players. Trudy was also an active member of one of the local senior centers where she made many friends and played many rounds of Bingo weekly.
A talented gardener, Trudy cultivated beauty both in her garden and in her life, nurturing her plants with the same love she gave to her family. Her culinary skills were unparalleled, and many will remember the warmth and laughter that filled her kitchen as she cooked for those she loved. Her needles were rarely still, creating countless pieces that wrapped her loved ones in the comfort of her care.
Trudy's passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but her spirit lives on in the memories she created, the lives she touched, and the love she shared. Her story is one of a journey well-traveled, a life well-lived, and a woman well-loved. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
Trudy is preceded in death by her loving husband Donald.
Trudy is survived by her daughters, Rosalee Colbert of Columbus, GA, Evelyn Mitchell of Globe, AZ, and son, Donald Mitchell of Columbus, GA. Trudy also leaves behind two grandaughters, four grandsons and four great grandchildren.
It was Trudy's wishes to be cremated and placed with her late husband Donald at Ft. Moore Cemetery. The family will hold a private memorial at a later time.
