Eddie J. Simon, Jr., 67, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 24, 2017.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Central Missionary Baptist Church 576 Central Church Rd. Midland, GA 31820 with Pastor Joseph McKelton officiating. A Repass will be held at the church following the service. Interment will be held Monday 11:00 AM at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Eddie was born in Columbus, MS on October 5, 1949. He grew up in Northport, AL where he met and married his loving wife, Linda A. Darling. They were married August 12, 1969 and shared a loving relationship for 48 years. He joined the U.S. Army on April 3, 1972 and served 22 years.
After retiring from Military Service, he was employed by the Columbus Consolidated Government, where he worked at the Muscogee County Prison as a Correctional Officer for 20 years.
He joined Central Missionary Baptist Church in 1997, where he worked with the youth Ministry picking up children for Sunday School, Church Service and Recreational Activities.
He served as Treasurer in The Global Association of the Buffalo Soldiers Recognition and Riding Club, Inc. The club raised $50,000 over a twenty-month period, to erect a monument honoring the legacy of the Negro Infantry Buffalo Soldiers of 1866 through 1951, on the Walk-Of-Honor at the National Infantry Museum on Ft. Benning, GA.
Eddie was a dedicated person, soldier and Public Safety Officer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Eddie J. Simon, Sr. and Mrs. Mable A. Simon, siblings, Lucile Jones, Jessie J. Simon, Sr. and Marie Sledge.
Eddie Simon leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Linda Ann Simon, 3 sons, Eddie J. Simon, III (Ann) of Durham, NC, James E. Simon (Paula) of Jacksonville, FL and Jessie White (Sharon) of Tuscaloosa, AL, daughter, Teresa R. Simon of Ellerslie, GA, 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, brother, Eugene Simon of Northport, AL, 6 sisters, Rosie L. Anders, Peggy Waller, Mary Lee, Lillie Simon all of Newport, AL, Shirley Simon of Tuscaloosa, AL and Army Simon of Atlanta, GA, 7 sisters-in-law, 4 brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces and nephews.
