Earl Jack Jackson Phillips, Jr.

Earl Jackson Phillips, Jr (Jack) 82, of Columbus, GA died Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at Thrive at Green Island.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 21, 2024 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Dick Reese officiating. Interment will be held 1:30 PM at Pine Mountain City Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Jack was born June 8, 1942 in Chipley (Pine Mountain), GA son of the late Earl Jackson Phillips, Sr. and Marion Douthit Phillips.

Jack lived a full life with family and many friends in his community. As a young man, he was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America and proudly achieved the Eagle Scout rank. He was a graduate of Harris County High School and The University of Georgia. He loved his Georgia Bulldogs. He held season football tickets for many years and enjoyed taking his kids and grandkids to every home game.

Jack had a successful career at Burnham Service Corporation, J Smith Lanier and Palmer Cay. He served on the Muscogee County School Board and played an integral part on the Cool Our Kids campaign to install air conditioning in all the county schools.

An avid runner, he ran the Atlanta Peachtree Road Race for 25 years celebrating the 25th year by running the race alongside his children Earl and Lori.

Other than his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Turner Phillips; and his sister, Isbel Edgar.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Love Phillips; children, Earl Phillips (Melonie) of Columbus, GA, Lori Kent (Lewis) of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Frances Awad (Zach) of Smyrna, GA, Ty Thornton (Samantha) of Atlanta, GA, Reese Alexander (Trey) of Columbus, GA, Jackson Phillips of Ladonia, AL, Lauren Kent of Marietta, GA, Juliana Kent of Marietta, GA, and a great grandchild, Ezra Awad of Smyrna, GA.

The family especially gives thanks to Valerie Fuller, his loving caregiver.
