Dr. Thomas A Henschel, affectionately known as Tommy, was a beacon of light, a pillar of faith, and a cornerstone of wisdom in his community, his church, and his home. Born on November 26, 1947, in Oakland, California, he embarked on a journey that would touch and transform countless lives. On July 19, 2023, he peacefully transitioned from this world in Midland, Georgia, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and wisdom. Tommy was more than a loving husband to Caroline Kirkland Henschel, a father to Philip A Henschel (deceased), Hallie Trainor (Jim) of Social Circle, Ga., Tricia Mitchell (Todd) of Panama City, Florida, and Benjamin Henschel (deceased). He was a friend, a mentor, a counselor, and a confidant. His love extended beyond his immediate family to his beloved grandchildren Hallie Kate Mitchell, Arrie Henschel, Jake Mitchell (Riley), Caleb Mitchell, Caroline Mitchell, Olivia Mitchell, and Gini Leigh Mitchell. Each one was a joy and a source of pride to him. Tommy became Papa to too many to mention. Tommy pastored churches in Georgia for a remarkable 58 years. For the last 23 years of his service, he served as the pastor at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Ellerslie, Georgia. His words and actions inspired many to live a life of faith in Jesus Christ. His wise counsel and comforting presence will be dearly missed. Tommy was a man of many passions and interests. He loved antique shopping, classic cars, and antique pocket watches. Each piece he collected was a testament to his appreciation for the beauty in history and the stories they told. His love for antiques was a reflection of his understanding that value increases with time, a truth he lived out in his own life as he aged with grace and wisdom. Tommy was a man of remarkable character, a loving husband and family man, a faith-filled leader, and a wise counselor. His life was a testament to his belief in the power of God's love, the strength of faith, and the value of wisdom. His legacy will continue to inspire and motivate all who were fortunate enough to have known him. His life story serves as a reminder that our time on this earth is a precious gift to be used wisely and lovingly. His memory will forever be a beacon of light and hope to his family, his church, and his community. A principal Tommy lived and shared was, "We are to believe, live, love, and work as though Jesus died yesterday, rose today and is coming tomorrow." This was the life that Dr. Thomas A Henschel lived, a life that continues to echo in the hearts of those he touched. He will be deeply missed, hugely loved, yet remembered as a man who truly lived a loving, faith-filled, and wise life.
