Dovie Cherie Hughes, 89, of Columbus, GA died Monday, August 31, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital.
A private family viewing will be held Thursday, September 3, 2015 at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Dovie was born July 2, 1926 in Farmers Branch, TX daughter of the late James William DeJarneatte and Beatrice Leggett DeJarneatte. She worked as a LPN and had her own private nursing registry. She loved fishing, gardening and picking blueberries. Dovie was a devoted mother who committed her life to the nursing profession. Her favorite place in the world was Indian Lake, Ohio and the fondest memory of her life was the day she brought her first grandchild home from the hospital. As she always said, "The Lord is my Shepherd".
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Clarence Downs Bush, III and daughter, Charlotte Bernice Holyfield.
Survivors include four daughters, Sylvia Diane Rieman (Walter) of Franktown, VA, Dana Corrine Harriett Bush Ostrov of Aiken, SC, Melody Dawn Bush MacArty (Brian) of Lehigh Acers, FL and Deborah Elizabeth Wayland (Kenneth) of Columbus, GA, son, William David Bush (Ada) of Covington, GA, 7 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project Fund www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
