Douglas Lyons Welsch, 52, of Columbus, GA passed away on Saturday May 29, 2021 at East Alabama Medical Center.

A celebration of life service will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, June 3, 2021 at St. Peter United Methodist Church, 6507 Moon Rd. Columbus, GA 31909. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Doug was born March 3, 1969 in Ft. Benning, GA to Helen Welsch and the late William Welsch. He graduated from Kendrick High School.  He worked in HVAC for many years, most recently with Mingledorff. He enjoyed coaching his son and many other boys on and off the baseball field for many years. He will be remembered for his Love of sports, especially Florida State Football, he also loved to golf and play softball.

Doug was a simple, laid back, funny guy and dedicated much of his time to helping others. He was an amazing father to Drew and a great husband to Kim for many years. Other than his father he is preceded in death by his sister, Christy Kelly.

He is survived by his wife, Kim Welsch, son, Drew Welsch, mother, Helen Welsch, siblings, Mike Welsch (Diane), Vicky Howard (Bobby), Denise Saturday and Charles Welsch, Mother and Father-in-law W.F. and Mary Jo Riles, brother-in-law, Brad Riles (Chera) and numerous nieces, nephews and lifetime friends. Doug was a “daddy” to his girls Meghan Catrett and Mallory Collins and a “Granddougie” to their children.

He is also survived by his special friend, Bonnie Weaver.

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of his former Riverdawgs baseball teams.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Peter United Methodist Church at 6507 Moon Rd. Columbus, GA 31909 in memory of Doug.
