Dorothy Caroline Walton, 76, of Columbus was called home on March 5, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital.
Dorothy was born March 17, 1944 in Havana, FL the daughter of the late Earl O. Walton and Mary Hogg Walton.
The family moved to St. Petersburgh, Florida. Dorothy’s career was in public accounting and worked with CPA firms in the St. Petersburg and Fort Myers area.
After Dorothy retired as a CPA in Fort Myers in the early 2000’s she began to travel the world seeking new sights and adventures. Many of her favorite destinations included the Galapagos Islands, experiencing penguins in the Antarctic, traveling down the Amazon river, walking the Great Wall of China and many other wonderful places that she explored. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed traveling to England for classes to learn new ways to stitch.
Her love for books and reading only enhanced her worldly nature and her desire to see the world. The stories and photos she would share upon her return made people feel like they had been there with her.
Dorothy moved back to Georgia after retirement to be closer to her family. She was not one to sit around however and was always on the go. She seemed to have an endless amount of time to devote to her church, the county library, her “stitching” group, family and friends. She was kind, generous and would always be there if someone needed help. This past year, she quietly made over 1,000 masks for the front-line workers in and around the Columbus area. She did this voluntarily and worked many hours at her sewing machine to give to those in need.
Dorothy “Dee”, “Dorse”, “Dodo”, all are the loving names we know her by. She was a fiercely strong and independent lady with a loving heart. She will be truly missed by all that knew and loved her. She is survived by her sister, Betty Moshier (Bill) of Blairsville, GA, niece Mary Kay Blalock (Tim) of Buckhead GA, great nephew Will Blalock of Buckhead GA, cousins, many friends and church family.
In lieu of flowers, you may make contributions to your favorite charity, Muscogee County Friends of Libraries or to the First Baptist Church in Columbus, Georgia.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate this incredible woman, friend, sister, and aunt.
