Dorothy "Dot" Louise Kennedy
December 8, 1935 — August 28, 2017
Dorothy "Dot" Louise Kennedy, 81, of Hamilton, GA passed away peacefully on August 28, 2017 at Columbus Hospice House, surrounded by her family, loads of love, laughter, and her favorite country music.
"Miss Dot" was born in Houston County, AL in 1935 to the late Richard Joseph Barnes and Mamie Louise Gamble Barnes. She then went on to work as a Bank Officer at CB&T, Synovus, and TSYS. She retired after 30 years, but could not sit still. She believed in working hard and loving harder and therefore worked at her daughter's dance studio, Toni's Dancing School for 15 years. The Mother Goose to more than just her family, Mrs. Kennedy nurtured everyone she came in contact with. She had this beautiful ability to see the good in all and believed that anything could be cured with some of "Grandee's" home cooked meals. She was a lover of life, her family (both blood and chosen), good food, the Atlanta Braves, and deep belly laughs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Lee "Buster" Kennedy and her brother, Richard Barnes, Jr.
Survivors include her daughter, Toni Kennedy Morrison (Mark) of Columbus, GA, son Terry Lee "Butch" Kennedy (Carolyn) of Kittery Point, ME, brother-in-law Gene Kennedy (Betty) of Hamilton, GA, grandchildren Alee Morrison Link (Ben) of Columbus, GA and Baili Barnes Morrison of Atlanta, GA, two great-grandchildren Willow Kennedy Link and Benjamin "Kai" Link of Columbus, GA along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 31, 2017 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Darrell Brown officiating. A private family interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the John B. Amos Cancer Center or Columbus Hospice.
