Dorothy Otis Jones
April 15, 1923 — February 21, 2015
Dorothy Elizabeth Otis Jones, recently of Columbus, Georgia, passed away Saturday at Gentiva Hospice after living for several months in the Franciscan Woods assisted living community. She had spent many years living in Searcy, Arkansas, before moving to Columbus last year.
Family and friends will hold memory gatherings in Columbus and Searcy in the near future according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mrs. Jones was born April 15, 1923, to the late Clarence and Annie (Toole) Otis. She spent the early years of her life in east Texas; after marriage to James D. Jones Sr., she moved to Greenville, Texas, and was a stay-at-home mom to their three children. In 1972, she and her husband moved to Searcy, Arkansas, and she worked as the secretary of College Church of Christ. She stayed in Searcy until November of 2014 when she moved to Columbus to be closer to family and for health reasons.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years and her brother, Robert Otis. The surviving members of her family include 2 sisters, Jo Ann Miller of Longview, TX, and Virginia LaCaze of Olive Branch, MS; 3 children, Peggy Carter of Columbus, GA, James D. (Buddy) Jones Jr. of Columbus, GA, and Pamela Belcher of Jackson, MI. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
