Dorothy Elizabeth Ellis Jackson, of Greensboro, NC, 81, died in Greensboro, NC.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2010 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Joseph M. Kay officiating. A private interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mrs. Jackson was born August 30, 1928 in Warm Springs, GA daughter of the late David Ellis and Julia Smith Ellis. She was a graduate of Jordan High School and an inactive member of Gentian Baptist Church. She worked in Columbus and Phenix City area banks until retirement, including Fourth National, First National, First Union, Regions, and First Alabama. She also worked for a few years as school crossing guard for Muscogee County Schools.
She was a resident of Columbus, GA until 2003 when she moved to Alpharetta, GA to be close to her daughter, Sue, following the death of Dan. In Alpharetta, she lived in an assisted living facility, Sunrise, at Ivey Ridge, where she enjoyed bingo and the Red Hat Society. Later, she moved to Woodstock, GA to The Terrace at Woodstock where she continued these activities. She moved to Greensboro, NC in 2008 to spend time and be closer with her daughter Jo, granddaughter, grandson-in-law, and great-grandsons.
