Dorothy Louise (Moye) Cook

On October 5, 2020, Dorothy Cook went to be with Jesus and was reunited with her husband, Rev. Jimmy Cook. There is great rejoicing in heaven over her sweet and long-awaited homecoming. Dorothy was the eldest child of Doyle and Florine Hutchens Moye. She was a refined lady who cared for her family with great love and devotion. She served her husband’s congregations with dignity, generosity, and grace. She will be remembered for her hugs, encouragement, and strength. She leaves behind a wonderful legacy and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

Dorothy supported her husband faithfully for 65 years. She was hard-working. She quietly made countless people feel cared for, thought of, and remembered through her notes, birthday cards, and phone calls. She also had a sharp memory, and once she met someone, she would always remember their name. She loved animals and being outdoors, using her green thumb to add beauty to any place she lived or worked.

In addition to her husband, Dorothy is preceded in death by her brothers Kenneth and Kyle Moye. She leaves behind four sisters: Mary Jo Watson (Tommy), Peggy Wright (Warren), Shirley Dunahoo (Emory), and Brenda Faye Rodriguez.

Dorothy is also survived by a daughter Susan Cook-Gaither of Blowing Rock, NC; son Robert Cook (Donna)of Hamilton, GA; and son John Cook (Missy) of Columbus, GA. Grandchildren Jessica Vandett, Cindy Wallace (Sevon); April Camp (Josh); Johnny Cook (Marlena); Katie Grimsley (Shane); Jenny Cook; and Emily Schultz (Randy).Great-grandchildren Zoe Vandett; Angel and Austin Rios; Issac, Johnathan, and Christopher Wallace; Jack, Clare, Sam, Ben, Luke, and Bess Camp; Eli, Nate, and Abby Grimsley; Oliver, Ellie, Theo, and Ruth Schultz; and Hutchens Cook.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Morningside Baptist Church, 6065 Morningside Drive, Columbus, GA 31909 with Rev. Jimmy Blanton and Rev. Jonathan Badgett officiating. Visitation will be held after the services in the church. Those unable to attend the services may visit www.mcmullenfuneralhome.com and watch live.

In keepings with the efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory will be following the recommendations set by the Columbus Consolidated Government and Governor Brian Keep by requiring face coverings and social distancing for those attending the services.
