Dora Margaret Moore Jenkins, 81, a longtime resident of the Morningside community in Columbus, GA died at her home on September 9, 2010 after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, September 13, 2010 at Morningside Baptist Church 6065 Morningside Dr. Columbus, GA 31909. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA and also after the funeral service on Monday at the church.
Mrs. Jenkins was born November 13, 1928, in Richland, GA, the youngest daughter of the late R.D. and Anna Moore and the sister of five brothers and a sister. She graduated from Richland High School in 1945 and worked as an operator at Southern Bell until her marriage on July 24, 1948. She was an active member of Morningside Baptist Church where her favorite volunteer position was in the newborn baby nursery. She was a member of the Bible Learners Sunday School class.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Mr. Charles H. Jenkins, Jr., a daughter, Elizabeth J. Landrum of Marietta, GA, and a son, Robert A. Jenkins of Snellville, GA. She is preceded in death by her youngest son, William Lester Jenkins. Her grandchildren are Shane Landrum of Arlington, MA, Susan and David Swain of Duluth, GA, Joanna Landrum of Marietta, GA and their father, Terrence J. Landrum of Acworth, GA, Jacqueline and James Daniel of Dahlonega, GA, Elizabeth and Jason Davis of Stockbridge, GA, and Ellen and Colby Brewer of Mill Valley, CA and their mother, Margaret Jenkins of Dahlonega, GA. Her great-grandchildren are Mariah and Micah Landrum and William Davis and two new babies who will join this special group very soon. Also in her Jenkins family are Mrs. Betty Grimes and Mrs. Mary and Mr. Marvin Mills, all of Columbus and the extended families of Bill and Ruth Grimes of Lawrenceville, GA and Brent and Laura Grimes of Columbus, GA, Wayne and Diane Slocumb of Shelby, VA, Carole and Charles Logwood of Chesapeake, VA, Judith S. Hafner of Chesapeake, VA, Linda and Randy March of Martinsville, VA and Doug and Rhonda Slocumb of Chesapeake, VA.
