Dan (Donato) A. Nicolais, 85, of Columbus, GA died peacefully on May 24, 2010 at The Medical Center in Columbus, Ga.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM Thursday, May 27, 2010 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Father Scott Winchel officiating. Burial will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 26, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM according to the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Dan was born in Tarrytown, New York on October 29, 1924 to Vincenzo and Maria Nicolais. He was a pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Dan met and married Dannie Mae McCool (predeceased) during the war. They resided and raised their two sons in Tarrytown, NY.
Dan worked at General Motors in Tarrytown, NY for 35 years, rising from the position of Clerk to Superintendent Material and Production Control and later East Coast Traffic Manager. While at General Motors Dan developed the Frozen Schedule Concept of inventory and production scheduling which optimized automobile production industry wide. He was also a part owner of SirLoinâ
