Donald Earl Williams, 83, of Columbus, GA, died Friday, December 16, 2016 at his residence at River Place.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Watson McKemie officiating. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Williams was born February 14, 1933 in Columbus, GA, son of the late Jessie "J.P." Williams and Ruby Hubbard Williams. He spent many years as an auto salesman at several local car dealerships. He retired from Montgomery Ward after spending many years in the in the Tire and Auto and Furniture departments. Mr. Williams attended Evangel Temple and First Assembly of God Church in Phenix City, AL. Don was a renowned fast pitch softball pitcher, enjoyed storytelling and was quite the jokester! Mr. Williams was the luckiest person ever, winning prizes in almost any endeavor that he entered! He never met a stranger and often encountered friends in faraway places. His family, and extended family, always came first for him.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Daphine Wright Williams and son, Darrell Williams.
Survivors include his son, Dwayne Williams (Susan) of Stone Mountain, GA; daughter in law, Dee Williams Jordan (Sean) of Smiths, AL; brother in law Bob Wright of Cartersville, GA; 2 grandchildren, Candy Hopkins (Richie) of Decatur, AL and Katherine Williams of Smiths, AL; 2 great-grandchildren, Taylor and Avery Hopkins of Powder Springs, GA, his caregiver for 5 years whom he considered a daughter, Lisa Dionne of Columbus, GA; and numerous friends and relatives.
Flowers will be accepted but those so desiring may make memorial contributions to a Charity of your choice.
