Donald Ray Wilbourn, 89, of Columbus, Georgia died Sunday April 3, 2022 at West Magnolia Manor. He had been a resident at the Brookdale Senior Living with his devoted wife for the past two years.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 5, 2022 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Ed Kvietkus officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. Private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery.
Donald was born October 27, 1932 in Early County, Georgia to the late Allie Grady Wilbourn and Thelma Rentz Wilbourn. He served the Nation he loved in the U.S. Navy From 1951 to 1959, after his Navy service he continued serving as a Civil Service mechanic. When he retired from the Civil Service he owned his own very successful paint contracting company.
He and his wife attended Edgewood Baptist Church until their elder years. Donald Ray was an avid fisherman, he loved boating and being on the water. He was an active member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary from 1992 to 2013. He loved serving in the Coast Guard and loved being on the Chattahoochee River. Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his daughter, Angile Kim Wilbourn, sister, Oudia Wells, brothers, Al Wilbourn, Grady Wilbourn and step daughter, Cecellia Ann Lyon.
He is survived by his wife Burah Dell Baxely Wilbourn. His son, Randy Wilbourn Sr. (Beverly), step children U.S. Navy Captain Kim LeBel of Maryland, Rev. Kent Mathis (Melissa) of Memphis, Kay Daniels of Cataula, GA, sisters, Peggy Wright of Valdosta, GA and Katie White (Don) of Cleveland, GA, several grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to ask in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Wounded Veterans in memory of Don.
