Columbus, GA - Major (Ret.) Donald Clayton Immel, Sr., 91, of Columbus, GA died Friday, August 13, 2010 at Vista Care at Franciscan Woods.

Funeral services will be 12: 00 Noon Monday, August 16, 2010 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Steve Croft officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery with full Military Honors

Mr. Immel was born November 26, 1918 in Spring Mills, PA son of the late George H. Immel and Mable Bowersox Immel. He retired in 1962 from the U. S. Army after 21 years, serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. While in the U. S. Army, he received the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart. He later retired from Civil Service in the Finance Department after 41 years. He was a member of Wynnton Baptist Church and later Wynnbrook Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday School for over 40 years.

Survivors include his wife Maurine Rowland Immel of Columbus, GA; his children, H. Michael Immel (Penny) of Birmingham, AL, Allyson Immel Bruner (Will) of Ellerslie, GA, and Donald C. Immel, Jr. (Tomera) of Phenix City, AL; grandchildren, Penn Immel Schwartzenburg, Michael Immel, Jr., Robert J. Buchanan and Brianna Immel, seven great grandchildren and two sisters, Francis Immel and Harriet Brown both of Mifflintown, PA;
