Dennis N. Tymkiw, age 64, passed away unexpectedly from cardiac arrest on September 5, 2022 in Midland, Georgia. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
He was preceded in death by his life partner, Melani “Cissy” Country. Beloved son of the late Harry J. Tymkiw and Mildred Anderson Tymkiw.
A native of Mount Clemens, Michigan, Dennis spent most of his life in Slidell, Louisiana. He was a 1976 graduate of Salmen High School and the University of Southern Mississippi, where he graduated with a degree in journalism. Beginning in the 1970s, Dennis was known throughout Slidell and the Northshore as a sports writer and photojournalist with the Slidell Sentry News and the Times-Picayune. He was a life-long Saints fan and was most happy at sporting events and with a camera in his hands. He leaves behind cherished friends and family. After Katrina, he moved to Alabama, where he was a resident until last month.
Survivors include his sister, Denise Tymkiw deAlminana (late Wayne); brother, Douglas Tymkiw (Michele); nieces and nephews, Matthew deAlminana and Andrew deAlminana, Alexis Tymkiw Stoner (Kyle), Nicholas Tymkiw (Emma) and Michael Tymkiw.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Local Home Group, World Service, or the American Heart Association.
