Daniel "Danny" Dunaway, 73, of Columbus, GA, formerly of Stewart County, died Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Columbus Hospice House.
Graveside Services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, October 24, 2014 at Lumpkin Northside Cemetery in Lumpkin, GA with Rev. James E. Duke, Jr officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00-7:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Dunaway was born June 10, 1941 in Cuthbert, GA, son of the late Harvey L. Dunaway, Sr. and Margaret Gallman Dunaway. He retired from the State of Georgia as District Director for the Department of Juvenile Justice. Mr. Dunaway was a member of Lumpkin Baptist Church, in Lumpkin, GA. He was a graduate of Middle Georgia College, where he attended on a basketball scholarship, and furthered his education at Georgia Southern University earning a BS degree in Education. Mr. Dunaway was an avid sports fan especially the Alabama Crimson Tide. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was fond of animals, especially cats and dogs.
Survivors include his twin brother, David Dunaway (Sandra) of Lumpkin, GA; brother, Harvey Dunaway, Jr. of Columbus, GA; sisters, Margaret Allman (Russell) of Lumpkin, GA and Patricia Tharp of Leesburg, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
