(Ret.) CW3 John Carl Idell, 79, of Columbus, GA died Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital.
Funeral services with Military Honors will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Infantry Center Chapel with Chaplain Stephen Alsleben officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery according to McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
(Ret.) CW3 John Idell was born March 17, 1933 in Greeneville, TN son of the late John Roney and Alma Pearl Moore Idell. He retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years having served two terms in the Vietnam War. During his military service, he received the National Defense Service Medal w/ 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal 3d Award, Army Occupation Medal (Germany), Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/V Device, Vietnam Service Medal 1 Silver Star and 2 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ 60 Device, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm, and 4 Overseas Service Bars. He retired after 10 years as a Project Officer for the Civil Service. He was a member of the Retired Officerâ
