Curtis "Al" Alvin Purgason, Jr.

Curtis Alvin Purgason, Jr, affectionately known as Al, 59, of Box Springs, GA died  peacefully Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Columbus Hospice. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 25, 2024 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral and Crematory with Rev. Stan Cartwright officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Al was born August 9, 1964 in Thomaston, GA to the late Curtis Alvin Purgason, Sr. and Sara Reynolds Purgason-Johnson.

Al ran tractors for Alexander Construction for 20+ years. He absolutely loved anything and everything about tractors. Al’s family was always first and brought him the most joy that life could give, especially his grandchildren who called him Pappy. They were his pride and joy. He was a beloved father, brother and uncle. He was an avid Alabama Football fan, and Nascar fan. Dale Earnhart was his favorite. When Football or Nascar season came around, there was no getting him away from the TV. He also enjoyed working on vehicles with his son and his grandson. No matter if it was changing a tire or rebuilding a motor, he enjoyed every second doing it. Those who knew Al will remember him as caring, a loving father and grandfather, he lived his life with an open heart and open door. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Libbie Purgason and nephew, Justin Strickland.

Survivors include his son, Cody Purgason (Gabby) of Box Springs, GA; grandchildren, Cooper Purgason, Chandler Purgason; sisters, Laurie Cartwright (Rocky) of Warm Springs, GA, Leslie Dalton of Columbus, GA; nieces, Kandi Oakes(Steve) of Cataula, GA, Kristi Harris(Rob) of Upatoi, GA, Alyssa Oswalt of Columbus, GA and other family members, and his dog, Daisy.
