Curtis Ray Moore, Jr., 78, of Columbus, GA went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 27, 2023.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, April 1, 2023 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Curtiss Moore officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Graveside service will follow at 4:00 PM EST and 3:00 PM CST at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery in Andalusia, Alabama.
He was born in Anniston, Alabama where he lived for a short time. He spent his early years living in Bowden, Georgia. His family moved to Corinth, Mississippi and he graduated from Corinth High School (1962). Ray chose to study anesthesia as a profession and first attended the University Of Alabama School Of Nursing in Birmingham Alabama in 1966, graduating in Tuscaloosa.
In 1967, he married his beloved wife Priscilla Greene Moore from Andalusia, Alabama, and they were married for 55 years. He served 3 years in the United States Army exiting as a 1st Lieutenant with a year of service in Vietnam. Going home he enrolled at Duke University School of Anesthesia graduating in 1972. Ray practiced his profession with great care and love at several hospitals --Holy Name of Jesus in Gadsden, Alabama and Southeastern General Hospital in Dothan, Alabama before moving his family to Washington, Georgia and Wills Memorial Hospital for 20+ years. The last 15 years he practiced at Anderson Medical (ANMED) in Anderson, South Carolina retiring in 2017. Ray was respected for his anesthesia skills and compassion shown to patients and their families. He felt fortunate to take multiple medical mission trips to Zambia, Africa and later Cange, Haiti with Dr. Harrey Morris and his team with Partners in Health and Paul Farmer from Boston, Massachusetts.
Ray and Priscilla were members of First Baptist Church in Washington, Georgia, moving to Spring Harbor retirement community in Columbus, Georgia since retiring here his health declined. Ray professed his faith and accepted Christ as his savior as a young boy. His Sunday School Class– Bible Searchers was a great joy in learning & caring for others. Ray & Priscilla are proud parents to three boys: Robert Lane Moore, Rev. Curtiss Newman Moore, and Russell Weston Moore. They enjoyed life raising the boys, helping coach the boys in football, baseball, basketball, and golf and enjoying outdoor activities of hunting, fishing, camping, canoeing, and snow skiing. They even followed Ray's beloved Bama football back to games in Tuscaloosa. He is preceded in death by his mother Grace Pollard and father Curtiss Ray Moore, Sr., his mother in law Betty Carter Greene and father in law Robert Wilbur Greene.
He is survived by his loving wife Priscilla Greene Moore and sons, Robert Lane Moore (Leslie Smith-Moore) of Asheboro, NC, Rev. Curtiss Newman Moore (Angela Parks) of Columbus, GA, Russell Weston Moore (Marrianne Hayward) of Birmingham AL. Ray and Priscilla are so proud of their 10 grandchildren, Abby Grace Moore, Anna Amon (Evan), Alli Moore, Britney Moore, Brenan Moore, Brooke Moore, Ellen Moore, Carter Moore, Ian Moore, and Julia Moore.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made toward the charity of one's choice or Columbus Hospice in Columbus, Georgia.
