Csm (Ret) Robert Lawrence Russell, Sr.

CSM (Ret) Robert Lawrence Russell, Sr., 85, of Columbus, GA died Monday, December 28, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00PM Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Britt David Baptist Church 2801 W Britt David Rd, Columbus, GA 31909 with Dr. Tim Jones officiating. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 PM Wednesday at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. In keeping with the efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, facemasks and social distancing will be required for those attending the visitation or funeral service.

Robert was born March 25, 1935 in Cooperstown, NY to the late Clifford Lawrence and Mary Hunt Russell. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Command Sergeant Major proudly serving in Vietnam as a member of the 7 ^th Special Forces. He graduated from Cooperstown High with the Class of 1953 and loved watching Hallmark movies, collecting stamps, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Duke Blue Devils.

Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Johnson Russell and a daughter Teresa Christopherson.

He is survived by his children; Robert L. Russell, Jr. (Patricia) of Ball Ground, GA, Carol Popwell (Walter) of Columbus, GA, Michelle Proctor (Willis) of Fortson, GA, 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Thelma Kingsley of New York, several nieces, nephews and other family members.
