Cornelia Sue Watkins
May 28, 1951 — March 21, 2020
It is with deep profound sadness that the family of Cornelia (Connie) Sue Watkins announces her passing on March 21, 2020 at the age of 68. Connie is survived by her husband, Barry C Watkins Sr of Columbus, Georgia, son Barry C Watkins Jr, and Barbara L. Watkins daughter in law, Auburn, Alabama and daughter Elizabeth Carolyn Wells, Phenix City, Alabama. She is also survived by brothers Rick Rodgers, and Thomas Rodgers, sister Rita, as well as eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Nancy Elizabeth Rodgers, Richard Rodgers, and in laws Carolyn and Dexter Watkins.
Connie, in her younger years, began her career as a paralegal working for an attorney's office in Columbus, Georgia. After moving to Arizona with her husband and children, she worked for the Department of Family and Children services as a caseworker assisting families. When she and her husband returned to the Southeast, first living in Alabama they retired from the corporate world and went into business for themselves. Being that she was also very talented and crafty, those talents would be put to good use. It is the very talents she had used that have left an everlasting impression upon her children, and grandchildren inspiring them to continue, on her behalf, to be just as crafty as herself. Connie, in turn, would use those talents to go into business with her husband to sell her handmade goods and run a thrift market as well as a consignment booth at a local thrift store. Connie as well as her husband retired to enjoy their remaining lives with their beloved animals.
While suffering through many illnesses, and setbacks, Connie did not sit idle and it should be noted that she fought with the spirit that was uniquely her. Her husband remained at her side being the support she needed until Christ called her home. Connie will be greatly missed by her family and those who had the pleasure to call her friend.
A celebration of life ceremony will be conducted at Central Christian Church, 7775 Moon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31909, and will be announced at a later time by the family.
