Comer Dixon Butler, 81, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 22, 2023 at St Francis Hospital.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, July 1, 2023 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Paul Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Butler was born August 12, 1941 and raised in Columbus, Georgia. He served in the U.S. Air Force and had a long successful career in aviation. Shooting and riding motorcycles was his passion winning world skeet shooting championships in the two man five man events. He also won the Georgia State Skeet Shooting Championship, shot 400 x 400 not once but twice, inducted into the Georgia State Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame, and was named to numerous All American skeet shooting teams. All of this and still found time to criss cross the continental United States multiple times on his motorcycle. He was a member of the Blue Knights MC and remained active shooting pistols almost to the day he died at 81 years old. He was an extraordinary human being.
Mr. Butler was survived by his two children, Kurt Butler and Elizabeth Jones; one sister, Patricia Jackson and niece Kimberly Jackson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you be kind to others.
