Col. (ret.) Kendrick B. Barlow, Jr., 91, of Columbus, GA died Monday, May 23, 2016 at Spring Harbor.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2016 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2100 Hilton Avenue, Columbus, GA, 31906 with Dr. Rev. Grace Burton-Edwards officiating. A private interment will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA 31907.
Col. Barlow was born July 2, 1924 in Savannah, TN. He was the son of the late Kendrick B. Barlow, Sr. and Ruth Jones Barlow. He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnne Clark Barlow, his parents and his sister, Ann Poole.
He graduated from West Point Academy and married his beloved JoAnne in June of 1946. They were married 65 years before her death in 2011. He served in the Korean and Vietnam wars as well as being an ROTC instructor at the University of West Virginia and at the U.S. Army War College. He was a dedicated and loyal military officer, husband, and father. He retired as a Colonel in the U.S. Army in Columbus in 1975. He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, the Columbus Country Club and the Retired Officer's Club.
Upon retiring, he spent many hours on the golf course with his golfing buddies. He also enjoyed visits with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was blessed to have long-lasting friendships throughout his life.
Survivors include his daughters, Susan "Sudi" Andrews of Columbus, GA and Robin Barlow of Paradise, CA, grandchildren, Joy Greenhow (James) of Upatoi, GA, Adam Shy (Elizabeth) of Paradise, CA and Zachary Shy (Laura) of Oakland, CA, and great grandchildren, Kate Shy and Zain Shy.
