Cleon Daniel King, 84, of Columbus, Georgia died July 25, 2012 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, July 27, 2012 at Epworth United Methodist Church 2400 Devonshire Dr. Columbus, GA 31904 with Reverend Scott Hagan officiating. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
He was born on March 15, 1928 in Waycross, Georgia son of the late Clarence and Renna King. He was one of four children.
He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and former member of Rose Hill United Methodist Church where he was a steward and Sunday school teacher. Mr. King graduated from Valdosta State College and received a Master's Degree and a 6th Year Degree from Auburn University. He was the first Principal of Reese Road Elementary School and served in that capacity for 22 years. He was the Principal of Edwina Wood Elementary School for 4 years before he retired in 1984.
He was preceded in death by his son, Cleon Daniel King, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Blount Trammell King and his daughter, Kathryn Trammell King, her husband, Sam Bearden and his grandson, Pace Daniel Bearden.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Methodist Children's Home, P.O. Box 2525 Macon, Georgia 31203.
