SSG (Ret.) Clement A. Hilsinger, 81, of Columbus, GA died Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the Venice Regional Medical Center in Venice, FL.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, February 14, 2011 at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery with Reverend Morris Lewark officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4 to 6 p.m. at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
SSG (Ret.) Hilsinger was born November 30, 1929 in Ithaca, NY son of the late Clement F. and Helen Potter Hilsinger. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant. While serving in the Korean Conflict, he received a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and Clasp Bronze 3 Loops, National Defense Service Medal and Bronze Star Attachment, Korean Service Medal and Bronze Star Attachment, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award, United Nations Service Medal, Expert Badge, Auto Rifle Bar, Pistol Bar, Submachine Gun Bar and Tank Weapon Bar, Sharpshooter Bade and Field Artillery Bar and Rifle Bar, and the Korea Defense Service Medal.
He was a member of the USAMU while serving at Ft. Benning and was a life member of the VFW and DAV. He retired after 19 years from Dolly Madison.
Survivors include his wife, Merle M. Hilsinger of Columbus, GA, two sons, Richard Hilsinger (Lisa) of Cataula, GA and Floyd Hilsinger of Smith Station, AL, two brothers, Herbert Hilsinger of Grifton, NC and George Hilsinger of York, SC, two sisters, Pat Baker of Fayetteville, NC and Lillian Maddison of Courtland, NY, four grandchildren, Chris Hilsinger, Chase Hilsinger, Chad Hilsinger and Katie Cannon and two great grandchildren, Noah and Corbin.
