Christine Smith Knight 87, of Columbus, Georgia died Thursday, July 09, 2020 at Orchard View Nursing Home.
A private brief graveside service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, July 18, 2020 in Parkhill Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 AM in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, Ga. 31907. In keeping with the efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, those attending the Chapel Service will be required to wear a mask (not provided) and social distancing will be in observed.
Christine was born September 24, 1932 in Geneva County, Alabama daughter of the late Wyatt E. and Gladys Jones Smith. Christine is also preceded in death by her step-mother Algenorah Jones Smith. Algenorah married Wyatt when Christine was about 2 years old. Algenorah was Gladys' sister making the transition so much better for such a little one. Christine met the love of her life, Johnnie at 16. The rest as they say is history. They eloped the day after her birthday and were married 57 wonderful years. Christine and Johnnie loved to travel. They both worked hard. Christine was very proud to have served as a Surgical Nurse at the Medical Center. After leaving the medical field, Christine and Johnnie served 14 years in Hawaii as missionaries for Waikiki Beach Ministry. They were charter members of Waipiu Community Church in Hawaii and former members of Beallwood Baptist Church. Christine is a current member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Columbus, Ga. Christine enjoyed many activities including playing the piano, needlework, ceramics, upholstery, real estate, gardening and had a huge love for reading especially her bible. Her biggest passion was her family and being a prayer warrior for them, her friends, and anyone who was placed on her heart. We are her because of her. Her prayer request is that those who do not know Jesus Christ will come to know them as their Savior.
Other than her parents, Christine was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Knight, sister, Merle Peacock, brothers, Durl Smith, Herman Smith, Jerry Smith and Clarence Smith.
Now "Teen" and "John" are together again in heaven forever.
Survivors include her sister, Martha Keller (Adam) of Fadette, Alabama, She also leaves behind her children, Sandra Culpepper (Wayne) of Cataula, Georgia, Donald E. Knight (Michelle) of Columbus, Georgia, 5 grandchildren, Sonya Culpepper (Matt), David Culpepper (Brandy), Jonathan Knight (Jessica), Andrew Knight (Christie), Page Perry (Dallas) and 5 great-grandchildren, Jon Randall, Alex Randall, Hunter Brashears, Savannah Knight, and William Knight who is on the way in September. Christine leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews, family members, and friends who loved her and will miss her so much.
