On Friday April 13, 2012 Christie Gregory Pappas died peacefully at St. Francis Hospital, Columbus, Ga. surrounded by his loved ones.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 23, 2012 in Memory Gardens, Eufaula, AL according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA.
Mr. Pappas was born on November 3, 1925 in Eufaula, AL, the son of the late Gregory H. and Bessie S. Pappas. After graduating from Eufaula High School, he attended the University of Alabama where he developed his passion for Alabama football which he shared with his children. His love of music began at an early age. Christie enjoyed playing the trumpet in the high school band and orchestra then continued to play in dance bands in college and afterwards. During his years at the University of Alabama, he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, Phi Eta Sigma and Beta Alpha Psi honor fraternities. Upon graduation from the University of Alabama with a degree in Accounting, he served in the U. S. Navy until he was honorably discharged in 1947. He was a member of the National Society of Scabbard and Blade. He was a 1952 graduate of University of Alabama School of Law and a member of the Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity. Mr. Pappas practiced law and raised his family in Eufaula and was a long time member of the Alabama Bar Association. He was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church of Eufaula and enjoyed many years singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school. He was a Mason, member of the Rotary, and was involved in many civic activities.
Mr. Pappas is survived by his sisters, Zafero Paterson, Wilmington, NC, and Helen Bledsoe, McDonough, GA, and his five children, Vickie Krutzer (William H.), Monroe, LA, Chris Pappas, Atlanta, Ga, Dorris Bishop (Richard S.), Columbus, GA, Star Burnett (William A.), Rumson, NJ, and Page King (Brady D.), Monroe, LA. He was the proud Grandpa of Tori Krutzer, Nicholas, Gabriella, and Isabella Pappas, Zach and Katie Bishop, Kyle and Alex Burnett, Connor, Ian, Cameron, and Patrick King and cherished his many nieces and nephews.
Christie was a loving son, brother, father, uncle and friend to many.
A celebration of his life will take place June 23 in Eufaula near his beloved Pappas Farm on Lake Eufaula which always held a special place in his heart.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff and residents of Covenant Woods in Columbus, GA for their love and support over the last year.
