Charlie Rayford Hathaway, 94, of Columbus, GA died Saturday, November 3, 2012 at VistaCare at Franciscan Woods.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at Waldrop Memorial Baptist Church with Reverend Steve Croft officiating. There will be a private interment in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the services at the church, according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA. 31907.
Mr. Hathaway was born November 30, 1917 in Black, AL, son of the late Arthur Jerome Hathaway and Gertrude Peacock Hathaway. He retired after 32 years from the United States Post Office as a mail carrier. He was a member of Waldrop Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was a member of the Southern Baptist Association and a member of the Letter Carrier Association. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp in World War II having received the Army Defense Service Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal. Mr. Hathaway was a faithful Christian and devoted husband and grandfather. He loved gardening, animals, farming and yardwork.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary McGarr Hathaway; sisters, Bessie Cliatt and Frances Hallman; and brothers, Claude Hathaway and Herbert Hathaway.
Survivors include his sons; William (Bill) Hathaway (Angela) of Columbus, GA and Joseph (Joe) Hathaway (Pati) of Ocala, FL; daughter, Ann Hathaway Menefee (Warren) of Columbus, GA; brother, George Hathaway of Trustville, AL; sister, Fronie Hathaway of Columbus, GA; grandchildren, Halie Hathaway, Katie Ashburn, Charles Hathaway all of Columbus, GA and Lindsey Hathaway of Ocala, FL; great grandchildren, Breanna Ashburn, C.J. Ashburn, and Robert Ashburn all of Columbus, GA.; and several nieces and nephews.
