(Ret.) SFC U.S. Army Charles W. Purtle, 80, of Columbus, GA died Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2011 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Scott Hagan officiating. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Purtle was born June 27, 1931 in Hope, AR son of the late Willie Otis and Irene Skinner Purtle. He retired from the U.S. Army as Sergeant First Class having served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He later worked in maintenance at Columbus College.
Survivors include his loving wife, Marian Purtle of Columbus, GA, daughter, Brenda Johnson (Ole) of Angelfire, NM, sons, Robert Purtle of Louisiana, Michael Purtle (Annette) of Youngstown, LA and Ray Purtle (Amy) of Lafayette, LA, step-daughter, Elaine Waller (Wayne) of Cornelia, GA, sister, Alma Dean Bobo (Joe) of Hot Springs, AR and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
