Charles Humber, Sr., 91 of Columbus formally of Albany, Ga., died Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Gentiva Hospice.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 13, 2014 at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. with Rev. Roy Cook officiating. A family interment will be held in the Lumpkin City Cemetery, Lumpkin, Ga. The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home.
Mr. Humber was born November 17, 1923 in Leary, Georgia son of the late Frank and Rubye Mae Jordan Humber. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II and a retired salesman for Phillips Hardware in Columbus, GA and Albany Hardware in Albany, GA. He was a former member of The Civitan Club of Columbus. A member of Gillionville Baptist Church in Albany, Ga. and a former member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Albany, Ga., and Wynnton (Wynnbrook) Baptist Church in Columbus, Ga.
Survivors include his wife of seventy years (November 29, 1944); Myrtle Humber of Columbus, Ga., four sons; Marvin Humber (Jane) of Jacksonville, Fl., Frank Humber (Linda) of Fairview, Tn., Stephen Humber of Columbus, Ga., William Humber (Melinda) of Wake Forest, NC., four sisters; Mary Frances Olds of Warren, NJ., Alice Rhyne of Denver, Co., Nancy Buchholz (Richard) of Denver, Co., Lillian Fielding of Thomasville, Ga., one brother; John Humber (Sheila) of Adel, Ga., and a daughter-in-law; Pamela Humber of Columbus, Ga. 12 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to Gentiva Hospice 2425 Williams Road Columbus, Ga. 31909.
