Charles H. Elrod, Jr., 80, of Columbus, GA died Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Midtown Medical Center.
There will be a private interment at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 15 ,2014 from 5:00 - 7:00 P. M. at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Elrod was born December 14, 1933 in Columbus, GA, son of the late Charles H. Elrod, Sr. and Eloise Fowler Foote. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and received the following awards: Korean Service Ribbon (Two Stars), National Defense Service Ribbon and United Nations Service Ribbon. He was a painting contractor and a member of the VFW and the American Legion.
Survivors include his sons, Jason Elrod (Claire) of Columbus, GA and Randy Elrod of FL; step son, Terry McGowan (Anne) of Columbus, GA; grandchildren, Tyler Elrod and Walker Elrod and a life long friend Edna Oletta Elrod.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
