Charles H. Ashworth, 79, of Columbus, GA, died Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 PM, Friday, November 14, 2014 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. A private interment will be held at Evergreen Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:30-7:30 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Ashworth was born September 6, 1935 in Fitzgerald, Florida, son of the late George Oliver Ashworth and Mary Stone Ashworth. He served in the Infantry in the United States Army. He retired from the Civil Service as a welder and firefighter and retired as the owner of Charlie's Radiator after 20 years. Mr. Ashworth was a prison guard in Harris County, a crossing guard with the Muscogee County School District, an Ordained Preacher where he was an Assistant Pastor for Faith Baptist Church in the 1960's. He loved deep sea fishing, singing, doing yard work, and spending time with his family.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie Ruth Cook Ashworth; sisters, Geneve Adams and Florence Simpson; brothers, Wayman Ashworth and Bobby Ashworth.
Survivors include his daughters, Dawn Fullerton (Steven) and Marna Nollen (Larry) both of Columbus, GA; 4 grandchildren, Stefani Legnetto (Nate), Christopher Fullerton (Suzanne), Deavon Howell, and Samantha Nollen; and 6 great-grandchildren; and 5 siblings, Elizabeth Grooms of Florida, Betty Creech of Tennessee, Marie Black of Georgia, Gary Cook of Indiana, and Joyce Munford of Columbus.
Flowers will be accepted but those so desiring may make memorial contributions to Columbus Hospice House, 7020 Moon Road Columbus, GA 31909.
