Carol Benefield Tongret, 72, of Columbus, GA died Monday, May 24, 2010 at Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2010 at McMullen Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Hawkins and Dr. Mike Stephens officiating. A private interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Primetime Sunday School Class of Cascade Hills Baptist Church.
Mrs. Tongret was born December 22, 1937 in Columbus, Georgia daughter of the late John W. Benefield
and Ethel Linder Benefield. Mrs. Tongret was a retired Registered Nurse working at St. Francis Hospital,
The Medical Center, Providence Hospital, Anchorage, Alaska, Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church, Va. and the
Columbus Health Department. She was a 1956 graduate of Jordan High School and a member of Cascade Hills Baptist
Church.
Survivors include her husband, Omer Dale Tongret of Columbus, Ga., one son, John Tongret (Jamie) of Columbus, GA,
two sisters, Dorothy Harrington and Rheba Battley both of Columbus, Ga., three grandchildren, John D.
Tongret, II, Jennifer Deanne (Dee Dee) Tongret and Jerome (Jerry) David Tongret, and several nieces, nephews
and cousins.
