Carol Mansfield Lowery

Carol Mansfield Lowery, 87, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, September 7, 2021.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 10, 2021 at Wynnbrook Baptist Church, Columbus, GA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Private interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cartersville, GA on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 12:00 PM.

Carol was born August 14, 1934 in Emerson, GA, to the late Joseph B. and Clyde W. Mansfield, and grew up in Cartersville, GA. She moved to Albany, GA in 1962. While living there she graduated from Albany Junior College with an Associate in Arts Degree, Summa Cum Laude. After raising her son in Albany, she moved to Atlanta to attend Georgia State University where she graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree, Magna Cum Laude.  She began her career in public accounting in Atlanta, earning her CPA designation in 1986.  She continued her career at TSYS in Columbus, retiring in 2004 after 14 years of service.

Carol had a pioneering and adventurous spirit. She was an airplane pilot, a master seamstress, and enjoyed doing works of perfection in needlepoint and cross stitch. She loved music, animals and was a devoted Atlanta Braves fan. Her travels took her to almost every corner of the world. One special trip of note was in 2014 when she and her granddaughter traveled to China to celebrate her granddaughter’s college graduation.

Carol was a woman of great faith. She loved God and her church, and had a passion for serving others in the community including the Columbus Baptist Association and Brown Bag of Columbus. In addition to her immediate family, she had two beloved nieces, Madelyn and Lynn, whom she visited often and took on vacation trips. Carol never met a stranger. She had so many friends from every path she walked throughout her life it is impossible to list them all.

Survivors include her son, Joseph M. (Jody) Lowery and his wife, Donna, and one granddaughter, Morgan Lowery. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy Taylor, nieces Madelyn Brown and Lynn Gayton, and their families, all of Cartersville, GA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother James P. (Jamie) Mansfield.
