Carol Patricia Agro, age 74, a resident of Columbus, died peacefully on Monday, August 10, 2020 at St Francis Hospital.
A family graveside service is scheduled at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, Alabama on Friday, August 14th at 9:00 a.m. The family plans a celebration of her life at a later time, which will be announced when arrangements have been made.
Mrs. Agro, daughter of the late George and Helen Walton, was born March 24, 1947 in Queens, New York. She was a registered nurse in Labor and Delivery at Wyckoff Heights Hospital in Brooklyn, New York when she met and married her loving, late husband, CPT (Ret) Robert "Bob" Agro of 43 years. Carol was immensely proud of Bob's duty and sacrifice while serving in Vietnam and Fort Benning, and honored to be an Military officer's wife.
They settled in Columbus and Carol devoted herself to her family and home. She actively supported her children's school, scouting and athletic activities, and was active in her community, including serving as one of the founding volunteers for the Wynnton Neighborhood Food Pantry, and supporting the Britt David Pottery Studio as a participating potter and fund raiser. An expert seamstress and crafter, she was as skilled in upholstery and furniture finishing as she was making delicate smocking and lace. She was the first to bring food and comfort to neighbors and friends in sorrow or need, and every new baby received one of Carol's crocheted blankets. Above all else, she was kind and giving to everyone, never wanting a spotlight, but always wanting to do for others. Every holiday and happy event was hosted at their home, or the lake cabin she loved so much, where food, gifts and unconditional love was always in abundance, and everyone was welcome.
Her greatest joys were always her two children, who made both their parents proud and loved beyond words throughout all the years, during all the smiles and tears, stumbles and successes. Then, in her later years, God blessed Carol one more time, with the granddaughter she dreamed of, and who loved her "Meme" as only a grandchild can.
She is survived by her two children, Gina Agro of Charleston, SC, and Rob Agro of Columbus, and her granddaughter, Gianna Marie Tyler of Charleston, SC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to PAWS, 4900 Milgen Road, Columbus, GA 31907. Please leave your name and contact information so you can be notified when the celebration of life is scheduled.
