Carmen Julia Lopez, 89, of Columbus, GA. passed away December 31, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital.
The family will receive friends Monday, January 13, 2020 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Carmen was born December 28, 1930, daughter of the late Estanislas Rodriguez and Julia Ramirez. She was pre-deceased by brothers, Jamie Rodriguez, Guillermo Rodriguez, Julio Rodriguez and, Manuel Rodriguez, grandchildren, Brian C. Lopez and Julia Kile. She received a Masters Degree of Education from Georgia State University, March 24, 1985 and her Degree of Nursing from Columbus College, June 9, 1969 and received a Bachelors of Science, Aug. 18, 1976.
She retired from Muscogee County School District where she worked as a Teacher and taught Health Occupations and Spanish. Carmen also worked as an interpreter for the Columbus Police Department as well being a Registered Nurse at St. Francis Hospital. She was also a certified Spanish Translator for the court system, with both written and oral translation.
Survivors include her sons, Perry Lopez (Deborah) of Columbus, GA and Antonio Lopez (Yvonne) of Murfreesboro, TN. daughters, Naomi Lopez of Phoenix, AZ. Carmen L. Kile of Chicago, IL. Catherine Lopez of Nashville, TN. sister Eva Rodriguez, and two grandchildren Brian Lopez and Julia Kile.
