Carl T. Kirkland, Sr.

Carl T. Kirkland, Sr., 94, of Columbus, GA died Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at his residence with family by his side.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, March 4, 2022 at Parkhill Cemetery with Reverend Tim Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 PM Friday, March 4, 2022 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Carl was born March 26, 1927 in Headland, AL to the late Early W. Kirkland and Lonie Elmore Brown. He served in the United States Navy with the Sea Bee’s during WWII.   He worked for the Columbus Police Department and retired as a Major after 41 years of service and later was an Associate Professor on the Troy University Faculty for 20 years. He held a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Columbus State University and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from GA State University. He was a member of Britt David Baptist Church, life member of the Peace Officers Association of Georgia, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.  Carl was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Joleen “JoJo” Kirkland.

Survivors include his son, Carl T. Kirkland, Jr. (Vickie) of Columbus, GA, grandchildren Mollie Hoffman (Paul) of Columbus, GA and Christopher Kirkland (Dana) of Columbus, GA, great-grandchildren, Callie Napier, Carolyn Hoffman, Pierce Hoffman and Luke Kirkland, and many nieces and nephews.
