Captain Mike D. Russell 47 of Talbotton, GA. died Monday, January 24, 2011 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM., Thursday at Morningside Baptist Church with Rev. Clayton Chesser and Fire Chaplain Mark Burnett officiating. Interment with Fireman Honors will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus. The following will serve as Active Pallbearers: Robert Collins, Brian Dorriety, Gene Hull, Ricky Weeks, Jack Kinsman, Bill Williams, Richard Parker and Ricky Burleson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Active and Retired Firefighters from the Columbus Fire and EMS.
Captain Russell was born October 24, 1963 in Columbus, Ga. son of the late Henry Eugene Russell and Vickie Sellers Russell. He was a Captain for the Columbus Fire Department and a volunteer for the Geneva Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Red Nights Motorcycle Club.
Survivors include his wife Becky Russell of Salem, Al., three brothers, Sonny Russell of Dallas, Ga., Jeff Russell of Columbus, Ga., and Shawn Russell of Cataula, Ga., one sister Elizabeth Elliott of Salem, Al., several nieces and nephews.
