Byron Bruce Moore, 88, of Columbus, GA, died Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at his residence.
A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Byron was born September 13, 1934 in Smith Center, Kansas to the late Walter Hugh Moore and Leona McNary Moore. The family moved to Denver when he was a young boy and then to Grand Junction, CO where he graduated from high school. After receiving a BS in Mathematics and serving two years in the U.S. Army, Byron taught high school math for several years before getting a Masters degree in Psychology. He was recruited and trained by Systems Development Corporation (a division of RAND) as a computer systems programmer/analyst working on various Department of Defense contracts. He joined the Federal government in 1972 to continue working on strategic Department of Defense Command & Control projects. Byron retired as a Computer Scientist from the Federal government and was awarded the Department of Defense Meritorious Service Medal. His greatest honor was to be selected to attend the U.S. National Defense University’s Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Byron loved to play golf and travel with his wife and was an avid reader, often reading 10 books a week. He enjoyed cooking, eating well, the occasional cocktail, wood working, and oil painting.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Catherine Furner Moore of Columbus, GA; son, Michael Bruce Moore (Dianne) of Narberth, PA; daughters, Shelby Dawn Bradfield (Frank) of Fortson, GA; Amy Catherine Turner (Jonathan) of Cataula, GA; five grandchildren: Jonathan and Alexander Moore, Savannah Rees (Richard), Holden Lee and Devin Turner. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Byers Jerome Moore.
