Buna Frances Tharp

Buna Frances Tharp died peacefully surrounded by her family on July 1, 2023 after a lengthy illness.

A visitation will be held at McMullen Funeral Home from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 5, 2023. The family will have a private burial service at Parkhill Cemetery according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Frances was born on February 4, 1933 in Blue Springs, Alabama to the late Perry Davis and Zora Hagler Davis, and her family moved to Columbus when she was in her early teens. She went to work at the Bibb Mill when she was 16 and retired after 45 plus years.

Frances had the greenest of thumbs and loved all flowers, but daylilies were her favorite. She enjoyed traveling to daylily farms throughout the southeast with Kim and Dakota. She was also known as a great cook and her world’s best fried chicken, homemade biscuits, and chocolate pies will be missed by family and friends.

Frances is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Dwayne and Susan Tharp, daughter Renee Tharp and her partner Jon Gavens, granddaughters Kimberly Tharp and Terri Tharp, and great-grandchildren Dakota Flint and Katelyn Gillum. She also has two surviving sisters Jewell Grayson and Alice Smith.

The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to Columbus Hospice or a favorite charity in memory of Frances.
