Bobby L. Swader, 67, of Columbus, GA died Monday, January 23, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, January 26, 2012 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tim Hopkins officiating. The following will serve as pallbearers: Donnie Walker, Sheldon Smith, Doug Shafer, Joseph Johnson, J.B. Goodpasture, and Allen Earnest. Interment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Swader was born July 14, 1944 in Langdale, AL son of the late Luther and Doris Ashley Swader. He retired in 1999 after achieving the rank of sergeant with 30 years of service from the Columbus Police Department. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandson, going out to eat, and watching football. He enjoyed watching The Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday and The Atlanta Falcons on Sundays. He was a member of Striplin Terrace United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life for 42 years, Eileen Price Swader and his grandson, Matthew Luther Swader.
Survivors include his daughters, Barbara Swader of Phenix City, AL and Tiffany Peters and her sons, Payton and Skylar all of Phenix City, AL, sons, Glen Swader (Kendra MacMurrain) of Fortson, GA and J.B. Goodpasture (Lisa) of Yelm, WA, sisters, Evelyn Barker (Joe) of Cataula, GA and Sharon Maddux (Gary) of Hamilton, GA, grandson, Dylan Thomas Luther Swader, who brought happiness back into his life, sister-in-law, Cheryl Walker (Donnie) of Elberta, AL, and close friend, Joseph Johnson.
