Bobby Joe Barefield, 71, of Columbus died Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Vista Care Hospice at Franciscan Woods.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 P.M. Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Evangle Temple Assembly of God Church with Rev. Doug Brown, Rev. Mike McBride, Rev. Watson McKemie and Rev. Rick Collins officiating. Interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus.
Mr. Barefield was born December 23, 1937 in Yazoo City, MS son of the late Ema Ruth Baggett Barefield McGreggor and Coley Lee Barefield. He retired from the U.S. Post Office and Jay Toyota and was the 1958 graduate of Jordan Vocational High School where he played Varsity Football, Basketball, Track and was also in the 4 Keys Quarter. He was a member of Evangle Temple Assembly of God Church, Joint Heirs Sunday School Class and Choir. He was also a former Board Member and former Sunday School teacher. He made many Mission Trips with the church.
Survivors include his wife Julia Bravo Barefield of Columbus; daughter Cindy Barefield Fryer (Mike) of Lagrange, Ga; son Rob Barefield (Kim) of Columbus; four grandchildren Langley and Dillon Fryer both of Lagrange, Ga and Karson and Clayton Barefield both of Columbus; sister-in-law Anne Bravo Morris of Dalton, Ga and several nieces and nephews.
