Billy John Burkes

Billy John Burkes, 80, of Cataula, GA, passed away peacefully at his residence in the early morning hours of December 23, 2023.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Ricky Ward officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA.

Billy was born September 23, 1943 in Beaumont, Texas to the late Johnny Burkes and Mamie Odom Burch. Over the years Billy worked as an auto mechanic and painter, he was the owner of Billy’s Game Room on Warm Springs Rd. in the late 70’s / early 80’s after which he was employed by Cascade Liquor Store on River Rd. In the mid-80’s he started Southern Paint Company before retiring in 2020.

Billy loved Jesus Christ, his family, his pets and never met a stranger. He would always go out of his way to do anything to help his friends and neighbors. Billy’s hobbies included Harley-Davidson motorcycles, auto racing, landscaping and wood working.

He is preceded in death by both parents and two sisters; Carolyn Barfield, and Virginia Moss. He is survived by his wife, Diana Burkes, sons, Billy Burkes, Jr. (Dera), Joey Allcorn (Krista), three grandchildren, Bailey Burkes, Hailey Burkes and Ariel Allcorn, one sister, Barbara Calhoun (Billy), in addition to many nieces and nephews.
