Betty Sue Johnson, born on March 29, 1938, in Brundidge, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 7, 2025, in Shallotte, North Carolina. She was a beloved homemaker, devoted wife, and remarkable mother whose unwavering care for her family was evident in every aspect of her life.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM, Saturday, April 12, 2025 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friend one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery.
Betty, the fifth of seven children born to Abe and Nunnie Pritchett, carried the values instilled in her from a young age throughout her life. With a strong work ethic and a heart of gold, she dedicated herself not only to her family but also to her faith. She was actively involved in Bethesda Baptist Church in Ellerslie, Georgia, where her love for the Lord shone through her actions and service.
As a cook, Betty was unparalleled, renowned for her legendary meals that brought family and friends together for large gatherings. Her home was a place of warmth and laughter, filled with the aromas of delicious food and the sounds of traditional country music, which she cherished alongside her husband, a guitarist and lead singer in a Bluegrass Band. Betty loved singing, especially Country Gospel Music, enjoying every moment shared with her family in joyful harmony.
Her dedication extended beyond culinary delights; she was a constant presence in the lives of her many grandchildren, lovingly supporting them and celebrating each significant milestone from their births onward. Her profound commitment to her family was complemented by her honesty and willingness to share her opinions, traits that shaped the strong bonds she built with her loved ones.
Betty's personality was defined by her caring nature and her resilience. A true fighter, she battled Alzheimer's Disease bravely, never allowing her spirit to be diminished. She set a powerful example for her children, teaching them important values such as honesty, hard work, and selflessness, always placing the needs of others before her own.
She is survived by her devoted children, Tina Casey, Kenneth Johnson, Jr., and Sherry Williams. Betty also leaves a legacy through her cherished grandchildren—Kelly McCrory (husband Chad McCrory), Blair Pouncey (husband Jonathan Pouncey), Kyle Johnson (wife Amelia Johnson), Craig Johnson (wife Kristina Johnson), Connor Johnson (wife Elizabeth "Bibba" Johnson), Korey Johnson, Taylor Dolar (husband Eric Dolar), and Clint Williams (wife Morgan Williams). Additionally, her great-grandchildren—Casey Pouncey, Griffin Pouncey, Blakely McCrory, Sutton McCrory, Korra Johnson, Karter Johnson, and Karoline Johnson—will carry her memory forward.
Betty is also survived by her brother, Douglas Pritchett (wife Patsy Pritchett), alongside her son-in-laws, Duffy Casey and David Williams, and her daughter-in-law, Martha Johnson. Her absence will be felt deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Betty Sue Johnson's life was a testament to love, devotion, and resilience. She will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to her family, her heartfelt compassion, and her undying faith. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched, as she leaves behind a legacy of love that will endure for generations to come.
