Betty Goolsby Richards, age 69, of Columbus, GA died October 13, 2015 at Columbus Hospice.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, October 15, 2015 at McMullen Funeral Home located at 3874 Gentian Blvd, Columbus, GA 31907 with Reverend Roy White officiating. There will be a private family interment. The family will receive friends immediately following the service according to McMullen Funeral Home.
Mrs. Richards was born October 6, 1946 in Columbus, GA daughter of the late JP "Preacher" Goolsby and Melba Riley Goolsby. She worked as a clerk at Goolsby Foods. She was a former member of Living Grace United Methodist Church and was the 1st runner up in the "Miss Teenage America Pageant" in 1965 representing Brenau Academy - Gainesville Georgia. She also traveled and performed as a singer with the "UP WITH PEOPLE" group in the middle 1960's.
Survivors include her daughter, Laura Mitchell Smith of Atlanta, GA, grandchildren, Harley Smith and Michael Smith both of Eufaula, AL, brother, Robert "Bobby" Goolsby (Sharon) of Columbus, GA, and nieces and nephews, Robby Goolsby (Amy) of Cataula, GA, Ginger Goolsby Thomas and Lori Goolsby Robinson (Ben) all of Columbus, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Living Grace United Methodist Church 3969 Edgewood Circle Columbus, GA 31907.
