Betty Joyce (Hutto) Phillips

Betty Joyce Hutto Phillips, 86, of Columbus, GA died Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Columbus Hospice House. A family graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Parkhill Cemetery.

Betty was born June 2, 1936 in Schley County, GA daughter of the late Jonah and Lula Pilcher Hutto. She attended high school in Buena Vista Georgia where she enjoyed being part of the cheerleading squad. After marriage, Billy and Betty moved to Columbus, Ga. where she lived until her passing. She was of Baptist faith and enjoyed listening to gospel music. She stayed very connected to her Buena Vista roots attending many family functions there with her children, grandchildren and siblings. She loved her children and grandchildren and found much joy in participating in activities involving them. She greatly enjoyed her friends as her outgoing and witty personality allowed her to easily develop friendships with many people throughout the Buena Vista and Columbus areas.

Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William Leon (Bill) Phillips; siblings, Edra Pope, Delora Dickey, Basil Hutto, Linah Campbell, GW Hutto.

Survivors include her children, Steve Phillips (Juliet) of Ashville, AL, Wayne Phillips of Columbus, GA, Lynn Yarborough of Columbus, GA; grandchildren, Emily Yarborough of Smyrna, GA, Kyle Phillips of Pendleton, SC, Marisa Smith (Dylan) of Grantsville, UT; sister, Deanie Wells of Buena Vista, GA; numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
